D DAY 75th ANNIVERSARY TOUR: BE PART OF SOMETHING UNIQUE
Salute To Cornwall D Day 75th Anniversary Tour, incorporating a stay at Caerhays Castle Estate and a House Party at The Vean, Caerhays Estate. Sat 1st June- Sat 8th June 2019.
7 night stay on the Caerhays Castle Estate. Featuring tours of all the important D Day 75th anniversary landmarks. Also take in some of the Great Gardens of Cornwall, with talks by the owners and head gardeners, as well as highlights of the famous POLDARK TV filming locations with expert Karen Colam. PLUS: Dance the night away at a special Salute to D Day Commemoration picnic and dance at Caerhays Castle’s own Porthluney Beach.
Saturday 1st June: Arrival at the Vean from 2.00pm. (transfers to be arranged on request).
4.00pm: Cream tea and welcome by Karen Colam & Lucinda Rimmington.
6.00pm: welcome drinks with Charles Williams
Sunday 2nd June:
9.30 am: The Lost Gardens of Heligan tour with Head gardener. Followed by time in their excellent gift shop.
12.00 noon: Drive to Charlestown Harbour for lunch and Poldark tour of Historic port.
2.30: Drive to Lanhydrock for guided tour of the house and talk on its wartime and Poldark connections.
5.00: Scenic drive back to The Vean for Dinner.

Monday 3rd June:
9.30 am: Caerhays Garden tour with Charles Williams
Followed by lunch in the Castle
1.30pm: Depart for Tregothnan estate. Home of Lord Falmouth and one of the largest private gardens in the country. Tour of the garden by Head Gardener followed by home grown Tregothnan estate cream tea with tea talk by Jonathan Jones.
Return to The Vean for drinks and Dinner.
Evening lecture with Charles Williams at The Vean
Tuesday 4th June:
9.30 am: depart for Trebah Garden tour, taking in the D Day 75th anniversary tour embarkation point for the 29th Infantry on their way to Normandy.
12.00 noon: Lunch at Trebah then drive to Falmouth to take the Enterprise Boat up the River Fal, past Trelissick, home of the late Sir Ralph Daniel, The Smugglers Moorings; where Eisenhower was billeted prior to the D Day invasion and where he signed off the final assault plans and finally on to Truro for a Poldark related walk through the city.
5.30pm: Transfer back to The Vean for Dinner
Wednesday 5th June:
9.30pm: Depart for North Coast to first visit Holywell Bay. A main attraction for POLDARK devotees, Holywell also played a very significant role in WW11. See Penhale Camp for the last time before its demolition.
12.00 noon: Lunch in Perranporth, home of Poldark’s Cornwall, the real Wheal Leisure mine and Churchill’s Secret Army. Visit Perranporth airfield where there was stationed a squadron of Spitfires that flew as air cover for D-Day assault craft.
4.00pm: Drive to Wheal Coates & walk to St Agnes Head, this is not only hallowed ground for Poldark fans but also the site of Cameron Camp where US Rangers trained for their assault on the Pointe Du Hoc.
5.30pm: After a location spotting drive back through St Agnes we return to The Vean for Dinner, Drinks and perhaps some board games.
Thursday 6th June: D Day 75th Anniversary Tour Commemoration Day.
9.30: We devote this day to the memory of those that lived their lives valiantly for our future enduring freedom. As and when we are notified of suitable local events during the day we will announce a full proposed itinerary for the day.
In the event that guests would prefer to spend the day resting and taking in their superb surroundings we suggest a coastal walk to Mevagissey to enjoy the ambience of this little shopping village with its lovely galleries and local produce or to The Nare on Carne Beach for lunch at the Quarterdeck.
6.00pm: We invite you to join us in dressing up in the high fashion of 1944 to dance the night away to the amazing Jump Jive band “COMPANY B” on Caerhays Estate Beach Meadow. Up to 250 guests will join us for the evening. A tabled picnic will be provided for Salute to Cornwall, House Party Guests.
Friday 7th June:
A leisurely start to the morning:
10.30 am : Depart for Bodmin Moor and an exclusive visit to “NAMPARA”, the home of the Poldarks.
1.00pm: Lunch at The St Tudy Inn.
2.00pm: Guided tour of world famous Camel Valley Vineyard
5.00pm: return to The Vean for drinks and Farewell Supper
Saturday 8th June:
11.00am: Check out of The Vean and transfer to onward travel.
Price per person ( based on two sharing a room and including 5* Bed and Breakfast at The Vean, Caerhays Estate, Dinner by house chef, all tour transport, guides, lectures and entrance fees to Gardens and Houses, but excluding lunches and alcoholic drinks) is: £1,533.00.
